Autism Ontario Windsor Essex Chapter would like to thank Sam Drakich for organizing the 3rd Annual Ice Cream Festival. Every year it gets bigger and better and this year the weather was on our side. We could not have asked for a more perfect day and we appreciate his continued support.
At the festival, we had the opportunity to speak to many people about Autism and let them know what our chapter does and how we can assist families that have someone on the spectrum in the Windsor/Essex area. Unfortunately many people still do not know about our organization and this was a great opportunity for us to get this information out into the community.
Thank you so much to all of you who participated in this event. We enjoyed tasting all the delicious flavours of ice cream and appreciated having the opportunity to communicate with everyone who attended and supported the festival. As well, we would like our community to know that Windsor-Essex is the largest chapter in Ontario with almost 300 members. Autism now affects approximately 1 in 100 children and there is still no known cause or cure. We fundraise to assist our local families dealing with this disorder as there is no governmental support. All funds raised from fundraising goes directly to our families in the Windsor and Essex county area to help them care for their child(ren) in the summer time when they are out of school, and perhaps in a camp or recreational program. We also organize a summer picnic and a holiday party for our members and their families to be able to come together in an environment where they are not judged or criticized. They can enjoy themselves and socialize with other families that share the same difficulties, struggles, triumphs and accomplishments that they experience living with someone that is on the autism spectrum.
Once again, on behalf of the families and children in the Windsor/Essex county area, thank you for your continuous support.
